Carlos Iguina Oharriz, President of MCS Life Insurance Company and MCS General Insurance Agency (GIA), leads both
entities’ operations, expanding the portfolio of supplemental insurance products and driving the continued growth
of MCS’s commercial business lines across Puerto Rico. His leadership is grounded in more than three decades of
experience in the legal, financial, and insurance sectors, bringing a strategic and transformative vision to MCS’s
executive team.
Prior to joining MCS, Iguina Oharriz served as president of a leading life insurance company in Puerto Rico from
2013 to March 2026, where he led a landmark financial turnaround that elevated the company’s A.M. Best rating from
C+ to A- (Excellent) and brought its Risk-Adjusted Capitalization to the strongest assessed level. Before his
tenure in the insurance industry, he founded and led Iguina Oharriz Attorneys and Counselors at Law, PSC, one of
Puerto Rico’s premier law firms, specializing in Insurance Law and complex litigation, including class actions,
and serving as a certified mediator for the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico.
Throughout his career, Iguina Oharriz has served as a trusted advisor to several Governors of Puerto Rico and
Presidents of the Senate, providing counsel on legal, legislative, and public policy matters. In recognition of
his professional and philanthropic contributions, he has been honored by the Senate of Puerto Rico and by the
United States Veterans Association.
Iguina Oharriz has served and continues to serve on the boards of directors of several prestigious organizations
in Puerto Rico, including the Mejor Mundo Foundation, which supports initiatives that combat severe poverty,
expand educational opportunities for children, and address food insecurity in underserved communities. He is also
President and co-owner of the Cangrejeros de Santurce, one of Puerto Rico’s most storied professional baseball
franchises, under whose leadership the organization won the 2026 Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico
championship and experienced a major revitalization in sponsorships and community engagement.
Iguina Oharriz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Boston University and a Juris Doctor,
with honors, from the Inter American University Law School. He is admitted to the practice of law in Puerto Rico
and at the federal level, including before the Supreme Court of the United States.
